PGT Windows & Doors in South Florida, FL

PGT Windows & Doors: The South Florida Owner’s Guide

We stock and install PGT-compatible windows and doors across South Florida, with most replacement projects running $4,500-$15,000 for standard window replacement and $8,000-$25,000 for full impact-rated installations. Most homeowners who call us notice the problem first as a draft they can’t trace, a window that won’t stay open, or a door that sticks every summer when the humidity spikes. In South Florida, that humidity isn’t just uncomfortable - it’s working against the seals, balances, and hardware every single day.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds three main product tiers, and the parts aren’t interchangeable between them. The WinGuard aluminum and vinyl impact lines use heavier-duty balances and reinforced interlocks than the non-impact Eze-Breeze or ClassicVue series. If you’re holding a failed part, check the etched mark in the glass corner or the sticker rail on the frame - WinGuard units carry a laminated impact certification label that standard PGT products don’t have.

We’ve replaced sashes, balances, locks, and rollers on WinGuard 700, 400, and 200 series, plus the ClassicVue and Architectural grade lines. The critical gotcha: PGT changed its roller pocket depth in 2019 on vinyl horizontal rollers, so a 2018 roller won’t seat properly in a 2020 frame without shimming - and shimming voids the warranty. We carry both generations on the truck. OEM PGT parts ship from Venice, Florida, usually in 3-5 business days; for hardware that’s not structural, we source equivalent-grade aftermarket from Truth Hardware or Amesbury that matches PGT’s spec without the markup. Groundwork Construction Co. of South Florida is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT.

Signs Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • The window slams shut or won’t stay open. This is almost always a failed coil balance or broken block-and-tackle in the jamb liner. In South Florida’s salt air, the stainless cable can corrode inside the housing where you can’t see it until it snaps.
  • Visible moisture between the glass panes. The insulating glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. Once argon escapes and humid air enters, the desiccant saturates within weeks during our wet season. The fix is a full sash replacement, not a “re-seal” - that doesn’t work.
  • The door sticks at the top or bottom seasonally. PGT’s multi-point locks depend on proper frame-square alignment. Foundation settling, common in South Florida’s sandy substrate, or thermal expansion in dark-colored frames can throw off the strike points.
  • Cranking noise or grinding when operating. On casement and awning units, this means the operator gearbox is stripping. PGT uses Truth Encore and Maxim operators depending on the year; the mounting hole pattern differs, so the wrong replacement won’t bolt up.
  • Water intrusion at the sill during driving rain. The weep holes are blocked, or the sill track cap has cracked. In South Florida, we see this after pressure-washing or when landscape debris packs the drainage channels.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Window replacement in South Florida typically runs $4,500-$15,000 depending on count, size, and whether you’re upgrading to impact-rated units. Impact window installation specifically ranges $8,000-$25,000 for a full-home package. Single-sash or part-level work is quoted per opening after we measure - no ballpark guessing that changes later.

Our pricing breaks out parts, labor, and disposal separately. You’re not locked into a package. If one PGT casement operator failed and the rest of the unit is sound, we replace the operator. If the IGU is fogged and the frame is 18 years old, we’ll tell you where the crossover point sits. We haul away old sashes and frames. Work is backed by our installation warranty; material warranties come direct from PGT or the aftermarket manufacturer and transfer to you.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things a homeowner can safely check: clear weep holes with a pipe cleaner, vacuum debris from the sill track, lubricate locks with a dry graphite spray. Beyond that, PGT’s impact-rated units are engineered systems - the glass, frame, and reinforcement work together. Removing a sash without supporting the head load properly can torque the frame. Adjusting multi-point lock strikes without a torque-limited driver can strip the fasteners.

We’ve been called in after DIY attempts where the homeowner cracked the laminated glass trying to force a stuck sash, turning a $280 balance job into a $900 sash replacement. Do it right the first time or you’ll do it twice - and the second time always costs more. For an honest assessment of whether your PGT unit needs a part, a sash, or a full replacement, call us at (844) 665-0162.
