Ameristar Fence Installation in South Florida, FL

Ameristar Fence Installation: The South Florida Owner’s Guide

Ameristar fence installation in South Florida typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a standard residential project, depending on linear footage, terrain, and whether you’re matching an existing Ameristar system or starting fresh. We stock Ameristar-compatible posts, panels, and hardware across their Montage, Echelon, and Passage series, and most residential installs in Broward and Miami-Dade counties start within one to two weeks of final measurements. Homeowners usually call us after noticing leaning sections, rust bleeding through the powder coat, or gates that no longer latch square - often after a tropical storm or years of salt-air exposure have pushed the original install past its tolerance.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar builds three residential lines we see regularly in South Florida: the Montage series (ornamental steel with welded flush panels), the Echelon line (aluminum with narrower picket profiles), and the Passage collection (wider rail spacing for semi-privacy). Each uses proprietary bracket spacing and post dimensions that don’t interchange with generic big-box fencing. If you’re matching an existing Ameristar fence, check the inside face of the end post for a stamped series code - Montage posts are 2″ square, Echelon runs 1.875″ on lighter residential gauges, and Passage uses a wider 2.5″ post with a different rail clip geometry.

We source OEM Ameristar components through their regional distributor in Fort Lauderdale, though for older discontinued colorways we’ve had success with PPG-certified aftermarket powder matches that hold up to South Florida UV. The critical compatibility gotcha: Montage II panels (2008-2016 production) used a narrower rail end that won’t seat in current Montage Classic brackets without shimming, which voids the wind-load rating. We don’t shim. We order the right bracket or transition the run properly.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning at the base with soil cracking around the concrete collar. In South Florida’s sandy loam, especially west of I-95 in Pembroke Pines or Weston, standard 24″ post holes often aren’t enough for a 6-foot ornamental steel run. The Ameristar spec calls for 30″ minimum in high-wind zones, and we’ve re-set dozens that were originally installed to the national minimum.
  • Rust blooming at weld points or where the powder coat has chipped at ground level. Ameristar’s galvanizing is solid, but if the installer ground the zinc at the base to fit a tight grade, that spot becomes the failure point. Salt spray from canal-front properties in Hollywood or Fort Lauderdale accelerates this dramatically.
  • Gate sagging or latch missing the strike by more than a half-inch. Ameristar gates are heavy - a 4-foot Montage walk gate runs 80-100 pounds. The adjustable hinge set can only compensate so far before the frame itself twists, usually from children climbing or landscapers leaning equipment against it.
  • Rails popping out of brackets during moderate wind. This happens when the original installer used standard brackets on a radius or stepped grade instead of Ameristar’s adjustable rake brackets. The difference is a $4 part that prevents a $400 service call.
  • Panel sections rattling or clanking in the wind. The nylon grommets that isolate the pickets from the rails degrade after 8-12 years of South Florida sun. They’re a $0.30 part, but you have to disassemble the panel to replace them properly.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range What’s Included
Single panel replacement (Montage/Echelon) $350-$650 OEM panel, brackets, hardware, removal/disposal of old, re-alignment of adjacent sections
Post reset or replacement (one post) $450-$900 Excavation, 30″ concrete footing with SonoTube, post, cap, re-attach rails
Gate rebuild or replacement $800-$1,800 Frame, pickets, hardware, hinges, latch, alignment
Full fence replacement (typical 150-200 linear ft) $3,500-$9,000 Complete removal, disposal, new posts, panels, gates, hardware, final grade

What drives the range: access for equipment (tight side yards in Coral Gables vs. open lots in Parkland), soil condition (limestone shelf vs. loose sand), and whether we’re matching a discontinued Ameristar color like the pre-2015 “Bronze Vein” that now requires custom powder. We itemize parts and labor separately in our estimates - no lump-sum mystery. Our workmanship warranty covers installation defects for two years; Ameristar’s material warranty runs 20 years on the galvanizing and 5 years on the powder coat, handled directly through their Fort Lauderdale distributor.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s honest work a homeowner can do: tighten gate hinges with a 7/16″ socket, adjust the latch striker, or touch up small powder-coat chips with Ameristar’s factory touch-up pen before rust sets in. What we don’t recommend: resetting posts (digging near buried utilities in South Florida’s crowded easements), cutting or drilling Ameristar steel panels (the galvanizing is compromised instantly and won’t take field touch-up properly), or attempting to straighten a bent gate frame (the welded corners crack before they bend back true).

The heavier risk is structural. A 6-foot Montage panel in a headwind generates serious load at the post base. If that concrete footing is undersized or the post is leaning, the whole run can domino in a storm. We’ve replaced fences in South Florida that were “fixed” by a homeowner with bags of Quickrete poured around the old collar - the post was still rotting at grade, just hidden better. Do it right the first time or you’ll do it twice - and the second time always costs more. Call (844) 665-0162 and we’ll assess whether it’s a $30 hardware fix or needs a full section rebuild.
